Welcome to the future of collaboration! This guide is designed to get you comfortable and productive within the allmates.ai platform quickly. Follow these steps, and in about 10 minutes, you'll understand the basics and have your first interaction with an AI Mate.

Phase 1: Getting In (Approx. 3 Minutes)

  1. Visit the Platform: Open your web browser and go to app.allmates.ai.

  2. Choose Your Sign-Up Method: On the login page, click "Sign up". You have options:

    • Email & Password: Click the standard sign-up, enter your first name, last name, professional email, and create a secure password (use a mix of upper/lowercase letters, numbers, symbols). Click "Create account". Crucially, check your email inbox (and spam folder) for a verification link and click it. This confirms your email address.

    • Google Account: Click "Sign up with Google". Choose your Google account and authorize allmates.ai. This is often the fastest method if you use Google Workspace or Gmail.

    • Accepting an Invitation: If a colleague invited you, click the "Accept" button in the invitation email you received from hello@allmates.ai. This will take you to allmates.ai. If you already have an account with that email, log in. If not, you'll be prompted to create one using the Email or Google method above. You'll automatically join the organization that invited you.

  1. First Login & Profile Setup: Log in using the method you chose. You'll likely be prompted to complete your profile:

    • Title: Enter your job title (e.g., "Marketing Manager"). This helps Mates understand your role.

    • Description: Briefly describe your main responsibilities. This gives Mates context about your work.

    • Profile Picture (Optional): Upload a photo to personalize your account.

    • Click "Save".

Phase 2: Finding Your Way Around (Approx. 2 Minutes)

Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the main interface areas:

  • Left Sidebar (Navigation Hub):

    • Top: Your Organization's name (click the arrow for settings/workspace creation).

    • "+ Personal chat": Button to start a new private chat with a Mate. Below it, you'll see your chat history.

    • Workspaces: Expandable folders (like "Marketing," "Projects"). Click to see Collabs (specific project chats) inside them.

    • Bottom: "Manage Mates" (to explore Mates/Tools) and your User Profile icon (for account settings/logout).

  • Main Content Area (Your Focus): This large central area displays your active Chat or Collab conversation, or settings pages.

  • Message Input Bar (Bottom of Conversations): Where you'll type your messages. Note the paperclip (📎) icon for attachments.

Phase 3: Your First AI Conversation (Approx. 3 Minutes)

Let's talk to a Mate!

  1. Select a Mate: In the left sidebar, just left of the "+ Personal chat" button, there's usually an icon showing the currently selected Mate. Click it to see a list of available Mates in your organization. For your first chat, choose a general-purpose Mate if available, or any Mate listed.

  2. Start the Chat: Click the "+ Personal chat" button. A new, empty chat window will open in the main content area with the Mate you selected.

  3. Send a Message: Click into the message input bar at the bottom and type a greeting or a simple question. Don't overthink it!

    • Example 1: "Hello! Can you tell me what you can help with?"

    • Example 2: "Hi, I'm new here. What's the best way to get started?"

    • Example 3: "Can you help me brainstorm some ideas for a team meeting agenda?"

  4. Send: Press the Enter key or click the send button.

  5. Observe & Interact: The Mate will process your message and respond. Read its reply. Now, try asking a follow-up question or providing more detail based on its response. Continue the conversation!

Phase 4: Understanding Core Concepts (Approx. 2 Minutes)

Grasp these key terms to navigate allmates.ai effectively:

  • Mates: Your AI teammates. Think of them as collaborators, not just tools.

  • Tools: Specific skills or capabilities (like Web Search, Image Generation, API connections) that are attached to Mates to define what they can do beyond talking.

  • Workspaces: High-level folders for organizing projects, teams, or clients. They provide broad context.

  • Collabs (Collaborations): Specific chat rooms within Workspaces for focused projects, involving multiple users and Mates.

  • Chats: Private, one-on-one conversations between you and one or more Mates.

  • Mentions (@ and @@): Use @Name to get a direct response/action from a Mate or user. Use @@Name to refer to them contextually without demanding action. Essential for directing Mates in Collabs.

  • Mate Knowledge: A feature to upload files directly to a Mate, giving it a private, persistent knowledge base.

You've Done It!

In about 10 minutes, you've created your account, navigated the interface, had your first AI conversation, and learned the essential terminology.

Suggested Next Steps:

  • Explore "Manage Mates": See which Mates are available and what Tools they might have.

  • Try a Specific Task: Ask a Mate equipped with a Search Tool to find recent news (@MateName, search for...).

  • Create a Test Workspace: Click the arrow next to your Organization Name > "Create a new workspace". Give it a name like "My Test Space".

  • Create a Test Collab: Inside your test workspace, click the three dots (...) next to its name > "Create a new Collab". Try inviting a Mate.
