Using the Interactive Table Widget for Data Display

Search, sort, download as CSV and copy the tables your Mates show in their answers.

When a Mate answers with data in rows and columns, allmates.ai shows it in an interactive table. You can search the table, sort its columns, download it as a CSV file and copy it to other apps. This article explains each of these actions.

When Mates use a table

A Mate uses a table when its answer contains structured data, for example:

  • the results of a data analysis (sales figures, survey answers),
  • a list of items with several attributes (tasks with a status and a due date),
  • a comparison of options.

You can also ask a Mate to "present this data in a table".

Search the table

Above the table, type a word or a number in the Global search field. The table shows only the rows that contain your text, in any column. The search ignores upper and lower case and accents. Clear the field to show all the rows again.

Sort a column

Select a column header to sort the rows by that column:

  1. The first click sorts in ascending order (A to Z, smallest to largest).
  2. The second click sorts in descending order (Z to A, largest to smallest).
  3. The third click clears the sort. The rows go back to their original order.

An arrow next to the column name shows the current sort direction.

Download the table as a CSV file

Above the table, select the download icon. Your browser downloads a CSV file of the table. You can open it in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets or another spreadsheet app.

The CSV file contains the rows that the table shows at that moment, in the displayed order. If a search is active, the file contains only the matching rows. To download all the rows, clear the search first.

Copy the table

Above the table, select Copy. The button shows Copied for a few seconds.

The copy always contains every row of the table, whatever the search and the sort. The rows keep their original order. Paste the table into:

  • a document editor (Google Docs, Microsoft Word), where it pastes as a formatted table,
  • a spreadsheet (Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel),
  • a note-taking app (Notion).

In a plain-text editor, the table pastes as Markdown text.

Good to know

  • A long table scrolls inside its own frame. Scroll in the table to see all the rows.
  • The table has no pages. All the rows are in the same table.
  • The search and the sort change only your view. They do not change the Mate's message, and other members do not see them.
  • The search and the sort reset when you leave and reopen the conversation.
  • Cells can contain formatted text and links. The search looks at the text of the cells.
