Changing the interface language and theme

You can use allmates.ai in 8 languages, in a light or a dark theme. You can also choose the language your Mates answer in. These settings are in the Preferences section of your Account page. This article shows how to change them and what each setting changes. It is for every member.

Open your preferences

1. At the bottom of the left rail, click your avatar. Your Account page opens.
2. In the Account sidebar, under Personal, click Preferences.

The Preferences page has two sections:

• Application: the Language card (the interface language), the Theme card and the Message submit shortcut card.
• Mates: the Default Mate for new chats card and the Mates answer language card.

Change the interface language

1. In the Application section, in the Language card, open the list.
2. Choose a language.

The interface changes at once. You do not need to reload the page. Dates also follow the new language.

The interface is available in these 8 languages:

• English
• Español (Spanish)
• Français (French)
• Italiano (Italian)
• 日本語 (Japanese)
• Polski (Polish)
• Português (Brasil) (Brazilian Portuguese)
• Svenska (Swedish)

Where the language setting applies

• The language follows you on every device and browser where you sign in to this organization.
• If you belong to several organizations, each organization keeps its own language setting. When you switch organization, the interface can change language.
• Until you choose a language, the app starts in your browser's language when it is one of the 8 languages, else in English.

Change the theme

1. In the Theme card, open the list.
2. Choose one option:
   • Light: a light background.
   • Dark: a dark background.
   • System: the app follows the light or dark setting of your computer or phone.

The theme changes at once.

The theme applies to this device and this browser only. On another computer or another browser, choose the theme again.

Choose the language of your Mates' answers

The interface language does not set the language of the Mates' answers. The Mates answer language card sets it.

1. In the Mates section, in the Mates answer language card, open the list.
2. Choose one option:
   • Follow my organization: Mates answer in the default language of your organization. The option shows this language.
   • A language under Languages: Mates answer in this language in your private chats. You can search the list.

The choice is saved at once. It applies to the chats you start after the change: a chat keeps the language it started in.

You can choose one of 19 languages: Dansk, Deutsch, English (US), English (UK), Español, Français, Italiano, Nederlands, Polski, Português, Svenska, العربية, हिन्दी, 한국어, Русский, ไทย, Türkçe, 中文 and 日本語.

Which language a new chat uses

A new chat takes its answer language when it starts:

• Workspace conversation: the language of the workspace (Locale in the workspace settings). Your own choice does not apply: every member of the workspace gets the same language. If the workspace has no language, the default language of the organization applies.
• Private chat: your choice in the Mates answer language card. With Follow my organization, the default language of the organization applies.
• If the organization has no default language, Mates answer in English.

The interface language never sets the answer language. For example, if your interface is in English and the organization language is French, your Mates answer in French in your private chats until you choose English in the card.

Owners and Admins set the default language of the organization. See "Organization settings".

To change the language of one chat only, open the information panel of the chat and change its Locale. You can also ask a Mate for another language in a message, for example "Answer in Spanish". A Mate whose instructions set a language can answer in that language. Ask the Mate's admin if a Mate does not answer in the expected language.

The interface language also does not translate your content: conversation names, workspace names, Mate names and descriptions stay as their authors wrote them.

Good to know

• The Preferences page also holds the Message submit shortcut card. See "Customizing Your Message Send Shortcut".
• The interface language is personal. It does not change the language of other members.
• The Mates answer language and the Default Mate for new chats apply to the organization you are in. If you belong to several organizations, choose them in each one.
• The Default Mate for new chats card sets the Mate your new chats open on. See "Starting Your First Chat with a Mate".
