Managing Messages in Your Conversations
Exclude, copy, update, delete or rate a message, and know what each message action does.

Each message in an allmates.ai conversation has a set of actions. You can control what your Mates read, copy a message with its formatting, correct a message, delete it, or rate a Mate's answer. This guide explains where to find these actions and what each one does.
Open the message actions
On a computer, move the pointer over a message. An action bar appears at the top right of the message. Each icon shows its name in a tooltip.
On a phone or a tablet, tap the ⋯ button of the message. The Actions menu opens. It shows the time of the message and the name of each action.
The actions that you see depend on the message. For example, you can rate only the answers of a Mate.
Available message actions
Exclude from context / Include in context (eye icons)
- What it does: a message with the crossed-out eye icon, Exclude from context, is read by the Mates. Click it to exclude the message: the message fades and the Mates no longer read it. A faded message shows the eye icon, Include in context. Click it to make the Mates read the message again.
- Why use it: keep a Mate focused on what matters. Every person in the conversation still sees the message.

Copy message (clipboard icon)
- What it does: Copy message copies the full content of the message. A confirmation reads "Message copied to clipboard".
- Why use it: when you paste into a document or an email, the formatting stays: titles, lists, tables and charts. When you paste into a plain-text editor, you get the Markdown text.
Update message (pencil icon)
- What it does: Update message opens the message in an editor. Make your changes, then click the check button to save. To cancel, click the X button or press Esc.
- Who can use it: you can update your own messages and the messages of Mates. You cannot update the messages of other people.
- What you see: an updated message shows "Updated at" with the time and the name of the person who changed it.
- Why use it: correct a typo, clarify a request, or fix a Mate's answer without a new answer. The Mates read the new text in their next answers. Saving a change does not make a Mate answer again.
Delete message (trash icon)
- What it does: Delete message removes the message from the conversation for all participants.
- Who can use it: you can delete your own messages and the messages of Mates. You cannot delete the messages of other people.
- Be careful: the app does not ask for a confirmation, and you cannot restore a deleted message. To keep a message but stop the Mates from reading it, use Exclude from context instead.
Good response / Bad response (thumbs icons)
- What it does: on a Mate's answer, click the thumbs up (Good response) or the thumbs down (Bad response) to rate it. The icon that you selected stays filled.
- Why use it: tell your team which answers were useful.
When a Mate cannot answer
If a Mate's answer fails, the message shows an error. The actions of that message change:
- Copy error copies the error text. Exclude from context, Update message and the rating icons are not available.
- The error shows a Retry button that asks the Mate to answer again.
- If the Mate stopped in the middle of its answer, the button reads Regenerate reply. The app asks you to confirm, because the new answer replaces the partial one.
Good to know
- Members with the Viewer role can read the conversation, but they do not see the message actions.
- Excluding a message and deleting a message are different. An excluded message stays visible to everyone. A deleted message disappears for everyone.
- The actions are the same in a private chat and in a workspace conversation.
