Qlik Official MCP Server

Install the Qlik (official) tool with your Qlik OAuth client, then connect each member's Qlik account.

The Qlik (official) tool connects your Mates to the MCP server of your Qlik Cloud tenant. Your Mates can then explore apps, query data and answer questions with your Qlik analytics. This article shows how a tool manager installs the tool with your Qlik OAuth client, and how each member connects their Qlik account.

Installing the tool needs tool-management rights: the Expert plan by default; your organization's plans may differ.

Before you start

In your Qlik tenant administration, create an OAuth client for the Qlik MCP server, as the Qlik documentation describes. Keep its client ID at hand. You will add the allmates.ai redirect URL to this client in step 4 below.

Install the Qlik tool

  1. In the sidebar, open Mates & tools, then Tools Store.
  2. Search for Qlik and open Qlik (official).
  3. Click Install. The Complete required setup dialog opens.
  4. Fill in the setup:
    • MCP server URL: the MCP address of your Qlik tenant, as given in the Qlik documentation.
    • Client ID: the client ID of your Qlik OAuth client.
    • Client secret: only if your Qlik OAuth client has one.
    • Scopes: type each scope, then press Enter: mcp:execute, user_default, offline_access.
    • Resource indicator: optional. Leave it empty to use the value that the Qlik MCP server gives.
    • Redirect URL: click the copy button, then add this URL to the allowed redirect URLs of your Qlik OAuth client.
    • OAuth token scope: keep Personal so that each member uses their own Qlik account and their own Qlik permissions.
  5. Click Install.
  6. In the Attach Qlik (official) to Mates dialog, click the Mates that should use Qlik, then click Save access.

You can change these settings later: open the tool in the Toolbox, open its menu (⋮), then Edit.

Connect your Qlik account

With Personal, each member connects their own Qlik account the first time a Mate needs Qlik.

  1. Ask a Mate that has the Qlik tool a question about your Qlik data.
  2. The reply shows Connect my account. Click it.
  3. Sign in with your Qlik user account and approve the access.
  4. The Mate continues and answers.

Your Qlik connection then appears in Account > Connections. You can remove it there at any time.

Explore your Qlik data

Once connected, ask your Mates about your Qlik apps and data in plain language, for example "Which Qlik apps can I access?" or "Show me the sales by region for last quarter from the Sales app."

Good to know

  • The offline_access scope matters. Without it, Qlik issues no refresh token, and each member must reconnect as soon as their access expires.
  • A redirect error at sign-in usually means the redirect URL is missing from the Qlik OAuth client, or differs by one character.
  • Shared instead of Personal. A tool manager can switch the tool to Shared: everyone then queries Qlik through one connected account, with that account's permissions. See "Personal and shared tool authentication".
