Understanding and Using Notifications

Notifications in All Mates are designed to keep you informed and streamline collaboration, ensuring you never miss an important update from your human and AI teammates. This guide explains how they work and how you can use them to enhance your workflow.

How Do I Get Notified?

Notifications are triggered when a team member—whether a human or an AI Mate—actively mentions you in a conversation where you are not currently present.

An active mention uses the @ symbol followed by your name (e.g., @Jane Doe). You will only receive a notification if you are not an active participant in that specific chat at that moment. This prevents unnecessary alerts for conversations you are already following in real-time.

Where Will I See My Notifications?

All Mates provides several visual cues to ensure you see your pending notifications:

  1. On a Specific Chat: A red badge with a number appears next to the chat where you were mentioned.

  2. On a Workspace: A red badge on a workspace indicates the total number of notifications from all chats within that workspace.

  3. In the Notification Center: All your notifications are aggregated in the Notification Center, located at the top of the application and represented by an inbox icon. Clicking this icon opens a list of all your recent mentions, allowing you to see who mentioned you and where.

Types of Notification Alerts

Depending on your activity, you may receive alerts in different ways:

  • In-App Alerts: If you are actively using the All Mates application but are in a different chat, a small banner will appear to inform you of the new mention. This banner disappears automatically.

  • Browser and System Alerts: If you have the All Mates tab open but are not actively using it, or if the browser is minimized, you can receive notifications directly from your web browser (e.g., Chrome, Edge, Safari). If you grant further permissions, these can even be passed on to your operating system's notification center (Windows or macOS).

Note: Receiving browser and system-level alerts requires you to grant permission to All Mates through your browser. For a detailed guide on enabling this, please see our article: How to Enable and Troubleshoot Notifications

Why Notifications Are a Game-Changer for Collaboration

Notifications are more than just alerts; they fundamentally improve how you work with your team.

  • Enable Fluid Asynchronous Work: Delegate tasks to your AI Mates and move on to other work. You can be confident that your Mates will notify you or your colleagues as soon as the task is complete, eliminating the need to wait and constantly check for progress.

  • Streamline Many-to-Many Conversations: Effortlessly bring a colleague into a discussion. By mentioning them, you can ask them to review a conversation, provide input, or take over a task, making team collaboration seamless.

  • Unify Human-AI Teamwork: All Mates is the first platform to integrate a notification system that works for both humans and AI agents. This unified system ensures that every member of your team, human or AI, stays in the loop, creating a truly cohesive and powerful collaborative environment.
